Antonella

Greetings!

Hi everyone, hope this first posting finds you all safe and well. The idea behind this Blog page is to provide you with material and activities you can work on while you are outside the Polytechnic. Any material you need to send back for checking or information on readings contact me on my polytechnic email which is antonella.coppolino@polytechnic.bh

To start you off here is your first activity.

This activity is divided into two stages. 1) Read the article below from "How Stuff Works" to refresh your memory on urban planning concepts, then 2) apply some of those concepts to one of the simulation games I have posted here for you. Hope you enjoy - send feedback to my work email, let me know if you found the activities useful or not (explain why) and what other kinds of material you would like to see me post.

1) Read the articles below and make notes on urban planning principles and good urban design. Remember, according to these principles, an urban planner needs to think about the p_ _ _ _ _ _ _,  e_ _ _ _ _ _ _  and s _ _ _ _ _ d _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _  (read the article on Curitiba if you have forgotten).

Article from the website "How stuff works" which higlights in detail the main principles of Urban Plannin. Click on the link http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/green-science/urban-planning2.htm

2) Once you have completed the reading, choose one of the following Urban Planning simulation games and apply the principles to the game, see if you can successfully construct the ideal futuristic city.

Urban Planning Game - very simple game which requires you to build your own city on a budget.
